Terms of Service
Effective 26 August 2026 · Last updated 26 August 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These terms form an agreement between you and [Company legal name], registered at [Registered address] and referred to here as PDFeather, we, or us. They govern your use of pdfeather.com, api.pdfeather.com, the dashboard, and the API.
You accept these terms when you create an account, call the API with a key, or pay for anything. If you accept on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to bind it. You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a contract.
Changes to these terms
We update these terms as the product changes. For material changes we give at least 30 days' notice by email to the address on your account and update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not agree, stop using the service and cancel; any unused prepaid balance is handled under the Refund Policy.
2. What PDFeather provides
PDFeather is a REST API that converts HTML or a URL into a PDF using managed headless Chromium. Alongside rendering, the service offers document tools: merge, split and rotate, compression, OCR, watermark removal, e-signature requests, branded template slots, and batch packs.
Rendered PDFs are streamed back in the API response and are not stored on our servers. The source HTML you send is discarded once the render completes. We cannot re-send a document you did not keep, so store the output on your side.
We may add, change, or retire features. If we retire something you depend on, we give reasonable advance notice by email to the address on your account.
3. Accounts and API keys
You sign in with a magic link sent to your email address, or with Google. Keep the email address on your account accurate and reachable: it is how we send sign-in links, receipts, service notices, and notice of changes to these terms.
An API key is shown once, at creation. We store only the key prefix and a SHA-256 hash of the key, so we cannot recover or resend a lost key. If you lose one, create a replacement and delete the old key.
- You are responsible for keeping your keys secret. Any request made with your key is treated as made by you and is billed to your account.
- Do not embed keys in client-side JavaScript, mobile apps, public repositories, or anywhere a third party can read them. Call the API from your own server.
- If a key is exposed, delete it in the dashboard immediately and tell us at support@pdfeather.com so we can help review the usage on it.
- The number of active keys per account depends on your plan: one on Free, five on Pro, and the amount stated on your plan otherwise.
4. Acceptable use
You are responsible for everything you send to the API and for the documents it produces for you. Because documents are not stored, we do not review your content before rendering, but we do act on credible reports of abuse. You must not use PDFeather to:
- Render, process, or distribute content that is illegal where you are or where your recipients are.
- Reproduce material that infringes copyright, trademark, or other rights you do not hold or have permission to use.
- Produce phishing pages, fake invoices or receipts, forged statements or credentials, or any document designed to deceive a reader about who issued it, including documents impersonating another business or person.
- Distribute malware, or generate PDFs carrying scripts or attachments meant to compromise the people who open them.
- Point the URL renderer at a third-party site in a way that overwhelms it, bypasses a paywall or access control, or scrapes it against that site's terms. The renderer is not a proxy, a scraper, or a load generator.
- Work around plan limits, quotas, rate limits, or the Free plan watermark, for example by creating multiple accounts. Watermark removal is available as a paid operation.
- Resell raw access to the API as a substantially identical PDF rendering service. You may freely build your own product on top of PDFeather.
- Probe, scan, or interfere with the security of the service, or attempt to access another customer's account, keys, or jobs.
Report suspected abuse of the service to support@pdfeather.com.
5. Fair use, rate limits, and queue priority
Each plan includes a monthly document allowance. Requests are also subject to rate and concurrency limits applied per key and per account, which vary by plan. Business accounts render on a priority queue; Scale accounts render on a dedicated queue.
When you exceed a rate limit the API returns HTTP 429 and you should retry with exponential backoff. When your plan allowance is used up and your prepaid balance is empty, the API returns HTTP 402. Neither response consumes your allowance.
We may throttle or queue requests that threaten the stability of the platform. Such measures are automated, temporary, and aimed at bursts far above normal use. If your sustained usage materially exceeds what your plan is designed for, we will contact you to move to a suitable plan before taking any other step.
6. Prepaid balance and payment
All prices are in US dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- A top-up is a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $500 per transaction. The $10 floor and the $500 ceiling are enforced server-side.
- Packages credit a promotional bonus on top of what you pay: $10 credits $10.00, $25 credits $27.50, $50 credits $57.50, and $120 credits $144.00. The amount above what you paid is promotional credit, not money you paid us.
- Credits do not expire. They remain usable for as long as your account is open.
- Balance is account credit for use of PDFeather. It is not a deposit, not electronic money, cannot be transferred to another account, and earns no interest.
Why items under $10 are balance-only
Products priced under $10 (a $0.99 render, for example) are paid exclusively from your prepaid balance and are never charged directly to a card. Card processing fees make individual sub-$10 charges disproportionately expensive, and pooling them into one top-up keeps your statement and our ledger readable. If your balance cannot cover an operation, the API returns HTTP 402 instead of charging you.
Taxes
Listed prices exclude VAT and any other applicable taxes. Stripe Tax calculates and adds EU VAT at checkout based on your location and the tax details you provide. You are responsible for giving accurate billing and tax information, including a valid VAT number if you are claiming a business exemption or reverse charge. If a tax authority later determines that tax was due on a transaction, you are responsible for that amount.
7. Subscriptions, overage, and auto top-up
Plans are billed monthly or yearly, and a yearly price is ten times the monthly price. The plans are: Free at $0 for 25 PDFs a month with a watermark and one API key; Starter at $9 for 500 PDFs; Pro at $29 for 3,000 PDFs with five keys, webhooks, and custom fonts; Business at $69 for 10,000 PDFs with a priority queue and email support; and Scale at $120 for 25,000 PDFs with a 99.9% uptime SLA, a dedicated queue, and priority support.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the dashboard; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
- Your document allowance resets at the start of each billing period and does not roll over.
- Documents beyond your allowance draw from your prepaid balance at $0.79 per document.
- If your balance is empty, the API returns HTTP 402 and stops processing billable requests. We never charge a card automatically to cover overage.
- Auto top-up is optional and off unless you enable it. When enabled, we charge your saved payment method $25.00 whenever your balance drops below $5.00. You can turn it off at any time in the dashboard.
- If a renewal payment fails, we retry it. Until it succeeds we may limit access or return your account to the Free plan.
We give at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change, and the new price applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
8. Refunds and cancellation
The Refund Policy is part of these terms. In short: unused prepaid balance from a top-up is refundable within 14 days of that top-up, covering the unused cash portion only, because promotional bonus credit is not refundable. Subscription periods that have already started are not refundable, and cancelling stops the next renewal rather than ending the current period. Operations you have already consumed are not refundable, and failed renders are not billed in the first place.
If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, your statutory 14-day withdrawal right for digital services applies in addition to this policy. The Refund Policy explains how it interacts with usage.
9. Service availability and the Scale SLA
We work to keep the API available and fast, and we publish incidents and maintenance on the status page. Except where the Scale SLA applies, the service is provided on an as-available basis.
Scale accounts are covered by a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA. The SLA excludes maintenance announced in advance, incidents caused by your content, configuration, or systems, and events outside our reasonable control. If we miss the target in a calendar month, email support@pdfeather.com within 30 days of the end of that month and we will add a service credit to your prepaid balance. Service credits are the only remedy for missed uptime.
Support is by email at support@pdfeather.com. Business plans include email support and Scale plans include priority support; other plans are answered on a best-effort basis.
10. Your content and our platform
You keep every right you already have in the HTML, URLs, assets, and documents you send us, and in the PDFs we return. We claim no ownership of them.
You grant us a limited licence to fetch, process, render, and deliver your content solely to provide the service you asked for. That licence lasts only as long as the processing does. Source HTML is discarded after rendering and output is not retained.
We keep all rights in the platform: the API, dashboard, rendering pipeline, documentation, and the PDFeather name and logo. Subject to these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the API while your subscription or balance is active. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
You confirm that you have the rights needed for the content you submit and that rendering it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
11. Confidentiality and data protection
Each of us may receive non-public information from the other that is marked confidential or would reasonably be understood to be: your API keys and security reports, our unreleased features and any pricing agreed outside the published pricing page. Each side will protect the other's confidential information with at least reasonable care, use it only to perform this agreement, and disclose it only to staff and sub-processors under similar duties.
This does not apply to information that is public through no fault of the receiving party, was already known to it, was independently developed, or must be disclosed by law, in which case we will tell you first where we are lawfully able to.
Personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. For personal data contained in the documents you send us to render, you are the controller and we act as your processor on your instructions. Because we do not store rendered PDFs and discard source HTML after rendering, we cannot retrieve a past document, for you or for anyone else who asks.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN AS-IS AND AS-AVAILABLE BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT OUTPUT WILL BE FREE OF DEFECTS.
In practice: rendering depends on Chromium, on the fonts and remote resources your document references, and on sites we fetch on your behalf. Check the output before you rely on it for something that matters. The Scale SLA in section 9 is the one exception to this section, and nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and does not allow us to exclude.
13. Limitation of liability
Neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, even if it was warned that such loss was possible.
Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and USD 100.
Because documents are not stored on our servers, retaining your own copies of output is your responsibility, and we are not liable for a document you did not keep. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a consumer's statutory rights.
14. Indemnity
If you use the service in the course of a business, you will defend us against third-party claims, and cover the resulting losses, damages, and reasonable legal costs, where the claim arises from the content you submitted or rendered, your breach of section 4, your infringement of someone else's rights, or your use of the output.
We will tell you promptly about any such claim, let you control the defence (you may not settle in a way that admits fault on our behalf or imposes an obligation on us without our consent) and cooperate reasonably at your expense. This section does not apply to consumers acting outside a trade or business.
15. Suspension and termination
You can cancel a subscription or close your account at any time in the dashboard. Cancelling stops the next renewal and access continues to the end of the paid period. Refunds of unused balance follow the Refund Policy.
We may suspend or limit access, with notice where it is practical to give it, if you breach section 4, if a payment fails or is reversed, if the law requires it, or if activity on your account threatens the security or stability of the platform or a third party.
Disputed charges freeze accounts. If you open a chargeback with your card issuer, we freeze the account while the dispute runs: keys stop working and the balance is locked. Please email support@pdfeather.com first. Most disputes are billing questions we can settle faster than a bank can.
Either of us may terminate for material breach that is not fixed within 14 days of notice. We may terminate immediately for serious or repeated abuse, or for illegal use. On termination your keys stop working, account data is deleted on the schedule in the Privacy Policy, and any unused balance is refundable only to the extent set out in the Refund Policy. Sections 10 to 14 and 16 survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law jurisdiction], and the courts of [Governing law jurisdiction] have jurisdiction over disputes arising from them. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules in your country of residence, and you may be entitled to bring proceedings in your local courts.
Before starting formal proceedings, please write to legal@pdfeather.com. We will try in good faith to resolve the matter within 30 days. Consumers in the EU and the UK may also be able to use an alternative dispute resolution scheme or contact their national consumer authority.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the service. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a right straight away is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it to a successor in a merger or sale of the business.
